NORTH POLE PRODUCTION ON SCHEDULE
Oct. 25, 2024 - With Christmas Day now just two months away, our reporter, Sandy Snoop, checked in with Dexter J. Poindexter, Senior Vice President of Toy Production at Claus & Company, to see how they’re doing up there, at the North Pole. Happily, Mr. Poindexter confirmed that they are, as usual right on target. “No need for anyone to fret,” he confirmed. “We’re right on schedule and will have everything ready to load onto Santa’s sleigh in plenty of time for his annual holiday run.”
As the world’s population has soared from 3.8 to 8 billion over the last fifty years, the North Pole has ramped up its production to meet the escalating demand, by modernizing their toy factory, streamlining many of their processes and hiring more Elves. Their flagship facility is widely regarded as the gold standard in the toy industry.
This year was reported to be especially daunting, due to a sharp, unexpected rise in the number of children on the “Nice” list, a development that's reported to have pleased Santa.
Over the years, it’s not just the numbers that have changed, but also the toys themselves. While perennial favorites like dolls, trucks and board games continue to endure as favorite “wish list” requests, other categories, most notably electronics, have gained huge popularity, necessitating the addition of a whole new wing to the North Pole toy factory. “Electronics are now our biggest single request,” confirmed Mr. Poindexter. “Televisions, computers, game systems, cell phones, you name it.”
What else are children asking for this year? “Well, books are always popular. Also, every year, we get a bunch of children asking for a little brother or sister. Pets are on a lot of lists – cats and dogs mostly, with the occasional hamster or goldfish or tarantula. A bunch of children ask for a pony each year. A surprising number of adults, too.”
And how does Santa get something like that down the chimney, we asked. “Trade secret,” he said with a smile. And that was the end of our interview.
